About shiatsu

No two trees grow the same. Like the forest shapes the trees, we are shaped by life. Our experiences make impressions upon us, which direct or sometimes constrain our growth and movement. Have you ever taken a stressful phone call and afterwards noticed your shoulders are up around your ears? Our thoughts and emotions can become tension within the body, especially if they are overwhelming or unexpressed. Now what?Through the transformative power of shiatsu, a form of East Asian bodywork, we can use pressure, stretches and acupressure points to release tension from muscles, joints and fascia. As our body becomes more free, so does our mind. As our movement becomes more free, so do we.Through shiatsu we can uncover our authentic posture and movement beneath our habitual patterns of tension. We come home to ourselves and reconnect with the core of us. This reconnection gives us a chance to make a decision going forward. Do we release this holding permanently? Is it time for a new way of being? In a shiatsu treatment you will be fully clothed and lie on a futon on the floor. I will ask you questions about your life and health to build a picture of what is going on for you, body, mind and spirit. I will then develop a treatment plan based on this, which may involve a variety of techniques including stretching, pressure, holding, rotating the limbs and joints, as well as gentle rocking and shaking. I may use fingers, palms, elbows, knees and feet to apply pressure to areas of tension in your body, to encourage relaxation and a clear flow of energy through your muscles, joints and fascia.
